What's Actually Open at Valnova This Summer, and What You're Still Waiting On

If you closed on a Valnova home in late 2025 or early 2026, this is your first real summer here. It's also the summer where two calendars run in parallel. One calendar is what opens on-site: Phase 1 of the Glencara Recreation Village, the lake, the first stretch of greenway trail. The other calendar is what's still under construction around you: the Highway 16 overpass at your main entrance, the cell tower, the Village Center that will eventually put a coffee shop inside the community.

Living well at Valnova right now means reading both calendars at once. This post lays them side by side, then names the specific off-site anchors in Eagle and Star that fill the gap until the Village Center is real.

Phase 1 of Glencara Is the Summer's Actual Change

The single biggest on-site shift this summer is Glencara Recreation Village. Valnova's central amenity, Glencara Recreation Village, will feature a clubhouse, an indoor/outdoor pool, pickleball courts, tennis courts, fitness center, and beach-side activities on the edge of Valnova Lake, and Phase 1 is expected to open in early summer 2026.

That is a meaningful list, and it also isn't the entire brochure. Phase 1 is Phase 1. The 18-hole championship golf course planned for the north end, the amphitheater, and the winter tubing hill with a magic carpet are farther out on the timeline. What you get this summer is a working clubhouse and lake edge, not the full resort. Plan your July around the pool and the courts, not around anything you saw in a rendering with snow on it.

The Lake Is 2.5 Acres. Right-Size Your Expectations.

Valnova Lake is worth naming honestly. You can paddleboard the 2.5-acre lake, swim in the indoor and outdoor pool, and use the fitness center among other on-site activities. Two and a half acres is a swimmable, paddleable, walk-around-in-an-evening body of water. It is not Lucky Peak. If you moved from out of state expecting Idaho lake life at the Payette or Cascade scale, that experience is still a drive north. What the on-site lake gives you is a daily amenity you can walk to after dinner, which is a different and more useful thing than a weekend destination.

The trail context matters too. The Glencara Greenway is part of the Eagle City Foothills Regional trail system, with native riparian plantings and water features bordering the community, and residents will be able to access the greenway from the parks and trails that wind throughout the master plan. That regional connection is the reason the greenway is worth building your morning walk around. It is not a private loop; it plugs into something larger.

The Overpass Is a Summer-Long Fact of Life

The single most important logistical fact for your summer is the Highway 16 build at your front door.

• Grade-separated interchange at the main entrance. Valnova is working with the Idaho Transportation Department on the grade-separated interchange, funding was secured by October 2023, construction begins in March 2026, and completion is anticipated by the end of 2026.
• Overpass for safe right-hand turns. Valnova is building an overpass to provide safe right-hand turns to enter and exit for both northbound and southbound traffic; construction began March 2026 and is anticipated to be complete by the end of 2026, weather permitting.
• Cell tower. Valnova is building a cell tower that is anticipated to be ready by Summer 2026.

Read those three dates together. Everything visibly under construction at your entrance is aiming to be finished inside this calendar year, and the cell tower is the nearest of the three. Until it lights up, the coverage story inside the community is what it has been since you moved in. Until the interchange and overpass are done, the daily calculus of getting to Eagle or Meridian by way of State Street versus the current Highway 16 configuration is going to keep shifting week by week as lane setups change.

The honest planning frame is this: assume construction friction through the fall, and treat any early completion as a bonus rather than a plan. Route your kid pickup, your grocery run, and your commute around the current lane pattern, not the pattern you remember from a tour six months ago.

What Isn't Here Yet, and Where to Go Instead

The Village Center is coming, not open. On when commercial space off Highway 16 will open, Valnova has said it is concentrating on getting infrastructure and utilities to homes first, and development of commercial space is contingent on available utilities and the types of commercial entities that might want to locate on Highway 16. Translation: there is no timeline you can put on a calendar for a coffee shop, restaurant, or grocery store inside Valnova this year. The 80 acres are reserved. They are not built.

That means the useful mental map for summer 2026 is a three-column one:

The bridge column is where your summer routine actually lives. Two anchors there are worth naming specifically because they save you the longer drive south to Meridian or east to Boise.

Two Star Anchors Worth Adding to Your Rotation

Star is your closest real downtown, and it has more programming this summer than it did the last two years.

The City of Star Summer Concert Series runs at the Star Riverhouse, 960 S. Main Street, on alternating Fridays through August. The 2026 lineup runs June 12 through August 28 with Stef & the Groove, Kill-A-Brew, Blue Sky Band, Casio Dreams, Almost Famous, and Sweet Briar; admission is free; bring your own lawn chair or blanket; outside food and non-alcoholic beverages are welcome; alcoholic beverages must be purchased from the permitted on-site vendor; no outside alcohol; alcohol is permitted only within the designated Riverhouse event area and is not permitted in Freedom Park. Two dates are left as of this writing: July 24 (Casio Dreams), August 14 (Almost Famous), and August 28 (Sweet Briar). Parking fills fast; plan to arrive before the first song.

The second is newer. Anderson Prime Steakhouse opened in June 2026 at 10206 W. State Street, run by the family behind Anderson Reserve in Sweet, a two-story, 15,000-square-foot build with signature cuts up to $225. For a Valnova resident, the point is not the price ceiling. The point is that a room designed for anniversaries and out-of-town family now exists roughly on the way home from the Riverhouse, meaning you no longer have to drive to downtown Eagle or Meridian for that specific type of evening.

The School Calendar Sneaks Up in August

If you have kids, do not let August catch you off guard. Valnova is part of the West Ada School District and has been zoned for Independence Elementary, which opens Fall 2026 and is located next to Star Middle, along with Star Middle and Eagle High School. A brand-new elementary next to your zoned middle school is a real convenience, and it also means the first-day traffic pattern on your corridor will be brand-new to everyone at once. Drive the route in July when nothing is at stake.

For public safety context, Valnova residents receive first responder services from the Eagle Police Department and fire protection from Eagle Fire Protection District and the Middleton-Star Fire Protection District, and Valnova is contributing 2 one-acre parcels of land for first responder facilities and $1 million toward fire protection services.

A Realistic Saturday at Valnova, Right Now

Here is a summer Saturday that uses what actually exists today, not what will exist in 2028:

1. Morning walk on the Glencara Greenway, connecting out to the Eagle City Foothills trail system.
2. Late morning at Glencara: pickleball or a swim, depending on which court is free.
3. Coffee run into downtown Eagle. The Village Center coffee shop does not exist yet.
4. Afternoon paddleboard on the lake. It's 2.5 acres. You will loop it several times, and that is the point.
5. Early dinner at home, then a 15-minute drive to the Star Riverhouse for a free Friday concert on an alternating week, or Anderson Prime on State Street for a slower evening.
6. Back before dark. The overpass construction is easier to route around when the sun is still up.

That is a full day that uses on-site amenities where they exist and off-site anchors where they don't, without pretending the brochure is finished.

Valnova at summer 2026 is a place with a working clubhouse, a swimmable lake, a trail connection into the Eagle foothills, and a front-door construction project that will define your driving patterns until December. It is not the finished resort, and it is not a subdivision with no amenity yet either. It is a specific in-between moment that rewards residents who plan around both calendars.

Finished lots were delivered to builders in 2024, the first residents moved in during fall 2025, and Valnova is a 30-plus-year project that will grow intentionally and sustainably with the Eagle community. You are early. That is a feature of your summer, not a bug.
